Most disputes are decided before anyone sees a courtroom, by the evidence you can produce and the assets the other side holds. Answer these five questions before you spend money on a claim.
1. What can you prove?
Contracts, invoices, delivery notes, messages and bank transfers. Gather them now, while they are easy to find.
2. Can the other side pay?
A judgment against a company with no assets is worth very little. Check what the other side owns and where.
Key point
A precautionary attachment over assets often matters more than the strength of the claim itself.
3. What will it cost?
Ask for a written estimate by stage. Early stages, like a letter before action, can usually be fixed-fee.
4. How long will it take?
Commercial cases in Egypt commonly take one to three years through the courts. Many settle earlier once the evidence is clear.
“If your case is weak, you should hear it in the first call, before you spend money on it.”
5. Is there a faster route?
Payment orders, mediation and arbitration clauses can all shorten a dispute. Check your contract for them first.
